Santa Ana - Metapan 110-112 The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Santa Ana at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were edged by Metapan 112-110. Metapan made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. American point guard Leangelo Saravia (183, college: Oakland City) fired 36 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican Xavier Zambrana (193-1991) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. Dominican forward Frankyn Batista (198-1999, college: Pace) produced a triple-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 21 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals and American Eddie Tirado (-1989) added 23 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Cojute forced 19 Santa Tecla turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American Nick Moore (198-1991, college: Alliance) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds. Forward William Merino (187-2000) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Five Cojute players scored in double figures. Dominican Rodolfo Espinal answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Ernesto Lahud (175-1984) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Santa Tecla. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brujos faced Chalchuapa. Host Brujos smashed guests from Chalchuapa 129-82. Brujos dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 32. Brujos forced 24 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 61-31 including a 28-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brujos made 13 blocks. Dominican forward Adonis Lopez (-1997) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and Dominican forward Alejandro De Los Santos (193-2002) chipped in 25 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Brujos' coach Francisco Lemus felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American forward Markos Samuels (196, college: Arkansas Bapt.) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and naturalized Puerto Rican swingman Miguel Velez (185-1997, college: Hartnell JC) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Brujos and four Chalchuapa players scored in double figures.
